Bio

Coach D'Angelo has worked as an assistant coach with the SCA High School Elite program since July 2023. Prior to that, Jon was an assistant coach with the SCA Post Graduate team under now H.S. Elite Coach Kyle Lindsted. During the 2022-23 season, the post graduate team set a program record for wins with 33 and finished the season ranked #2 in the country, developing six Division I scholarship players and one NAIA full-scholarship player though the entire roster entered the year with zero offers.

Before joining Sunrise Christian Academy, Coach D'Angelo spent four years (2018-22) in Greenville, South Carolina as Director of Basketball Operations at Furman University. Serving under Head Coach Bob Richey, Furman experienced unprecendented success inside the program - setting program records for wins in a regular season, wins in a season, earning their first post-season birth since 1991 (NIT, 2019), as well as road victories over defending National Champion #8 Villanova Wildcats and defending Final Four Cinderella, Loyola-Chicago in 2018-19. That season the Paladins also achieved the first AP Top 25 ranking in program history, reaching as high as #23 in the nation and receiving votes for the poll for 13 consecutive weeks. During his time at Furman, the Paladins produced some of the highest efficiency numbers in the country including: 100th percentile rank vs Press (#1, 2022), 98th percentile rank in Offensive Efficiency (#9, 2022), and a 99th percentile rank against Man to Man Defense (#3, 2020). During all four seasons at Furman, the Paladins maintained a top 25 offensive team profile under Head Coach Bob Richey.

Prior to Furman, Coach D'Angelo was a graduate assistant under future Hall of Fame Head Coach Tony Bennett at the University of Virginia. Setting a program record for wins with 31 and the ACC Record for ACC wins in regular season play with 17, the Cavaliers had began the season unranked in national polls. The program rose to earn the first AP Top 25 #1 ranking since 1980 - a unanimous ranking by all voters. That season culminated in an ACC Regular Season Championship, ACC Tournament Championship, and a #1 seed for the NCAA Tournament before the team notably fell in the first round to #16-seeded UMBC. Again, Coach D'Angelo was a part of a program excelling on the court, producing a team that ranked #1 in the NCAA in Defensive Efficiency, #30 in the NCAA in Offensive Efficiency, #5 in the NCAA in Offensive Turnover %, #11 in the NCAA in Offensive Transition, #1 in the NCAA in Half Court Defense, and #2 in the NCAA in Post-Up Defense.

Before his time at Virginia, Coach D'Angelo worked with another ACC program under Hall of Fame Coach Jim Larrañaga at the University of Miami (FL). As a student assistant, the program appeared in the NIT Championship in 2014-15 as well as the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2015-16 (losing to the eventual champion Villanova Wildcats, finishing ranked #10 in the final AP Top 25 poll). Learning from some of the best minds in the game, those programs again ranked at the top of the NCAA - specifically #3 in the NCAA in Pick & Roll Usage, #1 in the NCAA in transition offense, and #11 in the NCAA in Offensive Efficiency. The Hurricanes also signed the 14th best class in the country including two ESPN Top 100 players: Bruce Brown (NBA – Detroit Pistons), Dewan Huell (NBA – Toronto Raptors); also signed Rodney Miller, Dejan Vasiljevic (Top 25 in ACC in Career 3pt%; #1 in ACC in career Turnover %).

The Miami area continues to be an NBA hot bed - so while at Miami the opportunity also hosted several NBA teams and worked with a number of trainers on a consistent basis.

In 2023-24, Jon was named as one of the 80 Next Up: Grassroots, HS, & More by Silver Waves Media.
