PG Class of '23 Overton Commits to Texas Tech
Kevin Overton made the decision this week to transfer and become a member of the Texas Tech Red Raiders after a successful season guiding the Drake Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament under Coach Darian DeVries.
With the program's success, DeVries earned the opportunity to take on the head coaching position at West Virginia University, and when he did Overton decided to enter his name in to the transfer portal and explore options for what would be next.
After hearing from a number of programs and sorting through the process with family, loved ones, and his support system, Overton decided Texas Tech was the best fit and committed following an official visit in early April.
Other finalists in his recruiting were Drake, Colorado State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Houston, and West Virginia.
Overton was a part of the Sunrise Christian Academy post graduate program in 2022-23 and helped lead the team to a record 33-4 finish - ending the year ranked #2 in the country after a loss in the National Prep Championships in Worcester. His head coach that season was Kyle Lindsted, who now coaches the Sunrise Christian Academy H.S. Elite program. Lindsted had this to say, "KO embodies so much of what we are about as a program. His growth in his short time here inspires us to continue to work towards that same fulfillment with all of our student athletes. We're all looking forward to seeing how he faces the challenges on this new stage, as he strives to be the best version of himself on and off the court."
