Wichita, KS. - No. 1 Sunrise Christian Academy moves to 24-1 on the season after a 69-36 win over McCallie High School. Sunrise finished 2-0 at the Dr. Pepper Classic.

Congratulations to head coach Luke Barnwell’s with his 200th win with Sunrise!!!

1st Quarter

McCallie’s David Craig got it going early with 5 points that boosted his team to an early 8-3 lead. Sunrise responded with a 10-0 run to end the quarter. The run was sparked by Dillon Hunter and Gradey Dick with 5 points each.

Sunrise attacked the rim and got to the free-throw line with ease for quick points. Sunrise led 13-8 after the first quarter.

2nd Quarter

Sunrise’s full-court press forced numerous turnovers in the first half and was too much to handle for McCallie. Sunrise got it going offensively and got everyone involved.

Scotty Middleton had 8 points in the quarter, Layden Blocker had 5 points off the bench, Bobi Klintman had 4 points off the bench, and Hunter had 8 pts at the half. Sunrise outscored McCallie 20-2 in the quarter and led 33-10 at halftime.

3rd Quarter

Sunrise built on their dominant second quarter with a 19-0 run at the beginning of the quarter. McCallie finally scored after a 39-2 run dating back to the second quarter. That would be their second made field goal in over a quarter and a half.

Sunrise had a balanced attack and played unselfish basketball. Multiple Sunrise players got into double figures in the quarter. Craig was the only source of offense for McCallie all game long. He had 11 of their 18 points in the game. Sunrise took a commanding 58-18 lead into the fourth quarter.

4th Quarter

Sunrise subbed in their bench and cruised to victory. McCallie was able to score in garbage time and cut the lead down to 33. Sunrise came into McCallie’s home court and dominated from start to finish.

Sunrise flies back home for one last game. Senior night will be at home this upcoming Friday night in the last regular-season game.
