Game Recap: Bartlett

Bartlett, TN. - Sunrise Christian Academy ends the road trip with a 74-61 win over Bartlett in the Memphis Hardwood Classic. The starting five for Sunrise were Dillon Hunter, Scotty Middleton, Gradey Dick, Mark Mitchell, and Cam Corhen once again.


1st Quarter

Sunrise started with a 6-0 run to open the quarter. Bartlett settled in and brought the game to 10-9 before Dick and Layden Blocker sparked the Sunrise offense. Dick scored a quick 8 points and Blocker had 6 points off the bench to go on a 14-2 run towards the end of the first quarter. Sunrise led 24-11 going into the second.

2nd Quarter

Sunrise started to pull away in the second quarter with a 9-0 run start. Turning defense into offense has been the formula for Sunrise’s success and it showed this quarter. Dick finished the electrifying second quarter with a buzzer-beater three to give him 13 points in the half. “My rebounds and the defensive side of the ball helped me with my offense and just getting me going early,” Dick said. Sunrise went into halftime with a comfortable 39-13 lead.


3rd Quarter

After trading a couple of baskets to start the quarter, Bartlett started to find their rhythm and went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 43-29. Bartlett built some momentum and the home crowd intensified towards the end of the quarter. Sunrise stayed on top 49-31 at the end of three, despite an 18-10 Bartlett-led quarter.


4th Quarter

The momentum officially shifted towards Bartlett and their home crowd to begin the fourth quarter. Amarr Knox for Bartlett was unguardable the whole night and exploded for 19 points in the quarter. Sunrise was able to keep up offensively and responded to every run Bartlett went on. There were moments where the lead got cut down below 13 but Sunrise kept playing to their strengths and survived a late push from Bartlett to hold onto a win.

Overall, Sunrise shot 52% from the field, 57% from two, and 41% from three. They had 29 total rebounds, 6 offensive rebounds and 23 defensive rebounds, 16 assists, 2 blocks, and 5 steals. Mitchell led the way once again with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. Followed by Dick with a 19 point and 11 rebound double-double (first of the season). Blocker off the bench had 11 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Corhen had 11 points, 2 rebounds, and a block.


Sunrise goes back home 5-0 with two wins on their first road trip of the season. “Playing our first three home games and getting dubs, coming here and playing out of town for the first time is a good feeling and got to keep it rolling,” Dick said.

Sunrise will be back at home preparing for their Florida road trip against three of the best teams in the nation. First up will be IMG Academy on Thursday, December 2nd. Stay tuned for a preview of the IMG Academy game.
