About Sunrise Christian Academy Basketball

At Sunrise Christian Academy, we believe that while athletics are important in developing principles that can supplement our walk with God, they cannot replace church, family, or academics. We also believe that God has given each and every student unique abilities in a variety of platforms.

For that reason, we have developed a multi-tiered boys’ basketball program that allows students from different backgrounds, whether they be socio-economic, ethnic, or life experience competes at a level that best suits their ability to glorify God through their play.

Founded in 1983, by Dr. Robert Lindsted, Sunrise Christian Academy started as a grade school emphasizing academic excellence and Biblical teaching. The school began with one teacher and six students. Over the years it has grown to include over 500 students on a campus spanning 18 acres.

Kyle Lindsted, one of Dr. Lindsted's sons, took the ministry a step further, incorporating athletics to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

2023-Today

The SCA Basketball program grew from the ground up over the years to be incredibly competitive in the local Wichita, Kansas area. Until 2009, no scholarships were awarded to potential student-athletes.

After a student who was due to attend a different high school program experienced a life-changing injury, Sunrise stepped in with the mission to help him rehab and maximize his growth both as a person and as a player. The young man committed to a Power Five program after nearly having his career cut short. Following that first scholarship, Sunrise increases their financial commitment to using the basketball program as a mission field to win, build, and send equipped young men in to the world.

As Coach Lindsted departs for Wichita State University to become an assistant coach, Coach Luke Barnwell takes the reins. Over the course of eight seasons, he wins several H.S. National Coach of the Year Awards and nearly wins the school's first GEICO National Championship, all the while continuing to bring in top-level recruiting classes and working to build hearts, souls, and minds for Christ.

Coach Barnwell departs as an assistant coach to Texas Tech University and Coach Kyle Lindsted assumes the H.S. Elite head coaching duties once again with the same goal as always - to change lives for Christ "for time and eternity."
